On April 17, a delegation led by Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, visited Fudan University. JIN Li, President of Fudan University, met with Falkov and his delegation to exchange views on China-Russia educational and technological cooperation. The meeting was hosted by Vice President of Fudan University CHEN Zhimin.

Falkov spoke highly of Fudan as one of China’s premier institutions of higher education. He expressed particular resonance with the university’s motto: “Scientia et studium, quaestio et cogitatio.” In his view, this spirit is exactly what China-Russia scientific and educational cooperation should embody. He noted that this visit is part of the China-Russia Years of Education, and that Russia stands ready to work with China to advance concrete joint projects that benefit the peoples of both nations. Falkov acknowledged the achievements Fudan has already made in cooperation with Russian universities and research institutes, and pledged his ministry’s continued full support for existing platforms, as well as its commitment to broadening and deepening bilateral collaboration.

Jin welcomed Falkov and his delegation. He noted that the China-Russia Years of Education open new opportunities for scientific and educational cooperation between the two countries. The Minister’s visit, Jin said, is both an affirmation of Fudan’s accomplishments in Russian collaboration and a strong impetus for further synergy. Fudan has consistently placed great emphasis on cooperation with Russia, and the two sides have fostered deep engagement across science and technology, humanities, and medicine. Looking ahead, Fudan looks forward to working with its Russian partners to deepen collaboration in joint basic and frontier research, talent cultivation in the humanities and social sciences, and interdisciplinary innovation — contributing together to the advancement of China-Russia scientific and educational cooperation.
During the meeting, representatives from both sides exchanged views on future directions for cooperation. Also present were Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Konstantin Mogilevsky, heads of Russian universities and enterprises, as well as Assistant President of Fudan University and Executive Deputy Dean of the Graduate School CHEN Yan.

“I hope more Russians will come to study at Fudan, to learn about Chinese culture and the Chinese language,” said Anastasia Eganova, a 2024 doctoral student at Fudan’s School of International Relations and Public Affairs. She was one of the Russian student representatives at the meeting. For the occasion, she wore a red blazer paired with a traditional Russian kokoshnik headdress. Falkov spoke with her warmly, asking about her life and studies in China.
“Actually, Russians love the color red too, just as Chinese people do. In Russian, the words for ‘red’ and ‘beautiful’ share the same root,” she said with a smile. “I’ve been in China for nearly a decade now. Wearing red today is my way of expressing my love for both Russia and China.”
